How To Clean Car Seats

Leather seats with a large sunroom on the 2021 Santa Fe

Do you have seats that need cleaning? While you might think that you would need to schedule service to get your car seats cleaned professionally, you will probably be able to clean your car seats at home with inexpensive cleaning materials you can find at most any hardware store. If you’re a Waterford driver wondering how to clean car seats, let Old Saybrook Hyundai give you a guide on how to clean car seats and point you to our service page.

How to Clean Leather Car Seats

If you’re wondering how to clean leather car seats, you’ll want to know that getting the job done in Madison is as easy as following these simple steps.

Things you’ll need:

  1. Leather cleaner, saddle soap, mild leather soap, or 1 part white vinegar/2 parts linseed oil solution
  2. Microfiber towels
  3. Interior brush (soft-bristled, NOT a stiff carpet brush)

  1. Take a look at your owner’s manual to find the instructions you need for your model and which products you SHOULDN’T use.
  2. Vacuum all the seats carefully to get all the particles out, but be sure not to put scratches on the leather. Use smaller attachments or an air compressor to clean out the cracks.
  3. Spray leather cleaner on the towel to wipe the seats clean and remove oil and dirt on the surface.
  4. Spray the cleaner onto the seats (if you’ve got perforated leather seats, spray the brush instead of hte seats), and gently scrub with your brush.
  5. Wipe the seats dry with a clean microfiber towel.

How to Clean Fabric Car Seats

Cleaning fabric car seats and making your Branford drive a more pleasant one is also pretty easy and requires many of the same materials and steps as cleaning leather car seats does.

Things you’ll need:

  1. Cleaning solution spray designed for fabric (NOT an all-purpose cleaner)
  2. Interior brush (soft or medium stiff bristles, NOT a stiff carpet brush)
  3. Microfiber towels
  4. Enough time for the seats to dry before driving the car anywhere

  1. Give your seats a thorough vacuum. Use the smaller attachments on your vacuum to get into the cracks and seams of each of the seats.
  2. If your car has a lot of pet hair, we suggest using a lint roller or specialized pet hair removal tool on your seats.
  3. After you ventilate the car by opening the doors or windows, lightly spray the cleaning solution onto the area you’d like to clean. Be sure not to saturate the fabric because this might cause mildew issues.
  4. Use the interior brush to get the cleaning solution embedded into the fabric.
  5. Once you see suds, wipe them from the fabric with the microfiber towel. If the fabric dries first, the dirt will be pulled back into the fibers.
  6. Keep going until the area is clean, then do the next section, so on and so forth until you’re happy with how your seats look.
  7. Vacuum the seats again to make them dry faster, and be sure to let them dry fully before using the car again.
